Mez Breeze

Mez Breeze is an Australian-based digital artist and writer whose innovative works include ‘net.art’ (Internet Art), experimental storytelling, digital poetry, games, interactive fiction, XR art – including Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) experiences – and other genre-defying outputs. With degrees in Applied Social Science and Creative Arts and Writing, Mez has been a pioneering force in the net.art movement since the 1990s. She is renowned for creating ‘mezangelle’, a unique language that blends code and poetry. Her projects are exhibited and taught worldwide, and she continues to push the boundaries of digital art and storytelling through immersive technologies.

Digital T[H]Readings [1994–2025] is an interactive, browser-native net.art archive-work that treats documentation as a literary form. Built as an expandable chronology, it invites readers to traverse three decades of electronic literature, code-poetry, and internet-based art through year-by-year nodes that unfold into medium, context, collaborators, and interpretive commentary. Rather than functioning as a static repository, the work asks to be read as a networked life-system: a long-form biography told through platforms, interfaces, communities, and traces.

The project is shaped by the unstable conditions of digital culture. Dead links, vanished hosts, obsolete formats, and shifting browser standards are not hidden or smoothed over; they are made visible as part of the work’s aesthetic and critical logic. In this way, Digital T[H]Readings turns loss into readable material, foregrounding how online cultural memory is constructed, neglected, and recovered.

At its core, the piece is both archival and autobiographical. It maps how a creative practice emerges across mailing lists, collaborative forums, journals, exhibitions, and browser-based experiments, while also reflecting on the gendered politics of visibility in network culture. The result is a living, authored interface that frames preservation not as storage alone, but as return, repair, re-contextualisation, and ongoing public encounter.
