kinema ikon is a pioneering Romanian multimedia art collective founded in 1970, making it one of the earliest experimental media art groups in Eastern Europe. Over its 55-year history, the collective has been at the forefront of experimental film, digital art, and interactive installations, bridging avant-garde cinema traditions with contemporary new media practices. Chronicles of Stillness: A Journey Through Time (1970-2025-2070) / (net.art)
All films produced by kinema ikon were transformed into over 200 transparent, superimposed layers. The result is a film of films with a duration of seven to eight minutes. antiVorspann is scheduled to run according to its own algorithm from 01.01.1970, 00:00h until 28.10.2070 at 20:16, when, on the kinema ikon’s centennial, the Time Capsule will be opened.

Antivorspann: Zeno’s Take (03:33) contains all films produced by kinema ikon between 1970 and 2025. The montage, comprising over 200 films, is programmed to run for 100 years: from 01.01.1970, 00:00, to 26.10.2070, 20:16. In the Zeno version, the film runs at a speed that compresses the entire projection into 3 minutes and 33 seconds. At a random click, the film stops on a frame corresponding to its position in the timeline, displaying the date, hour, minute, and second of that frame as related to the 100-year timeline.
