Aristarkh Chernyshev

Born in Voroshilovgrad, USSR, in 1968. Graduated from The Moscow State Technical University in 1991. He has been working in-between new media and contemporary art since early 90’s. From 1996 to 2005 he has produced several interactive installations together with Vladislav Efimov. From 2000 to 2004 he was running Media Lab at the National Center for Contemporary Arts in Moscow.

Aristarkh has participated in numerous exhibitions and festivals both in Russia and internationally. In 2004 he has co-founded Electroboutique gallery in Moscow. His works appear on major International art fairs. Aristarkh Chernyshev lives and works in Moscow.

‘MetaConsumer’ & ‘Fluid Transformations’

In the era of hyperconsumerism the old slogan ‘Work, consume, die!’ acquires new connotations. After reaching a peak of development every civilisation inevitably moves towards decline.

The ‘golden age’ of the civilisation of overconsumption may end in global catastrophe. Disposable goods fill supermarket shelves and the number of cheap products made from synthetic materials is off the scale, creating problems with waste recycling, air pollution, soil, water and oceans all over the world and ultimately leading to global climate change, the disappearance of entire species of animals and plants. Just sorting waste is no longer enough, we have to change the basic principles by which our economy and society function.

The Fluid Transformations project is a continuation of the MetaConsumer project. The new images of this project are obtained from the MetaConsumer images by processing them using the Stable Diffusion neural network. The impossibility of a rapid transformation of real society encourages artists to experiment with digital transformation, giving food for thought, reflection and pushing society towards real transformations.
