Biography

Stefanie Wasserman

Science writer for Madison Avenue in New York City.  Stefanie Wasserman is a conceptual artist and writer from Brooklyn, New York. She explores language as kinetic word sculpture — something that moves.

She is interested in the brain, neuro-development, and where evolution may take us in the future. Humans are constantly developing. When viewed through the long lens of time, will we perceive society, technology, art, and ourselves differently? Using humor and imagination, her work invites audiences on an adventure into the surreal.

Anni Garza Lau

Towards ‘living’ data.
Through the Natural Selection project, the transdisciplinary artist Anni Garza Lau explores organic supports and behaviors using them as personal data to generate social and ecological change. Her works use language and image as an interface to manifest possible relationships between molecular biology and artificial intelligence.

Vivienne Aerts

Vivienne Aerts is a Dutch New York-based vocalist, conductor, a composer with a focus on electronics, chocolate, and multi-sensory experience design as well as a clinical psychologist and a faculty member at Berklee College of Music where she has been instrumental in building a new generation of performers who are not only skilled musicians but also mentally and physically healthy individuals.

“Aerts is ethically grounded, and aesthetically off the wall.”

ARTWORK

Impulse
Augmented Reality Experience

“Impulse” is an augmented reality application through which the user experiences the simulation of the synapses of six types of neurons/characters, a textual narration in perpetual flow and spatial interaction with a changing sound environment.
The piece allows, through narrative links, a network of active neurons to develop, surreal speculations with their consequent adaptations and intertwining.

The interconnection of assumptions creates the idea of micro societies that address macro implications. Like the brain itself, “Impulse” is an endless experimental narrative of electrical impulses.

Instructions: If you have an Android 8 or higher device, you can download the application by clicking here.

  • Access the device Settings. In Security select “Install applications.” Unknown” and then enable it from My Files.
  • Look in your Downloads folder for the Impulse.apk file and tap the icon twice.
  • The system sends alerts, but this packet is secure. Find the option that says “install anyway.”
  • Once the application is installed, the Open button will appear. You’ll also find the icon on your phone. When you open it, it will take a few seconds (in black) to start your camera.
  • Go through the neural network by touching each neuron and discovering its history.
