Biography

I’m Magdalena Ibarra Troiano, artist from Rosario city, working as a fashion designer and as a DJ under the name Guardiana de la Bahía. Since 2018 I work in my own brand Descartes, where I recycle plastics for trash by hand, to transform them into new pieces of daily use, using the artificial resources of the garbage-nature of the contemporary urban ecosystem. The Descartes collections are presented in Estudio G (art gallery). Through Descartes, I have given courses teaching the thermofusion recycling technique in different institutions and schools and I was invited as a speaker at the University of Palermo. Simultaneously, I worked as a DJ at art, music and fashion events, developing the search for my own sound to later take it to my own experimental electronic productions. I am currently finishing my studies in the Cycle of Curricular Complementation of Fashion, Art and Design at the National University of Rosario while I continue as a student of Fine Arts at the same.

ARTWORK

Danza Cetácea – Cetacean dance
Audiovisual performance

Danza Cetácea is a video performance that is structured around the interaction between sound, light, and body, through clothing. It is a cross between music, fashion and performance; understanding clothing as something more complex than just what covers a body. Through an automatic sound and rhythmic interactive technology, it is possible to create a combined dance between sound and light. Just like water acquires its shape according to the container where it is, this garment built out of recycled plastics has no definite shape, instead it transforms on the body every time that it is worn. The sound piece does not have a stable shape either. It is made up of artificial sounds.
