Biography

David Clark was born in Calgary, Canada. He has a BFA from NSCAD and a MFA in Sculpture from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and studied at the Whitney Program in New York, the Canadian Film Centre in Toronto and the ITP Program in New York. His internet and video work has been shown at over 150 festivals around the world including Sundance, SIGGRAPH, FCMM in Montreal, Transmediale, European Media Arts Festival, Images in Toronto, and the Museum of the Moving Image in New York. He won the top awards at the FILE Festival, Sao Paulo, SXSW Interactive in Austin, Texas, Cinema Tous Ecrans in Switzerland, the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax, Pixxelpoint in Slovenia, and the Tokyo International Video Festival. In 2008 he received the Established Artist Recognition Award from the Nova Scotia Department of Culture and in 2011 his work 88 Constellations for Wittgenstein won the $25,000 Nova Scotia Masterworks Award. In 2006 the MICA Galleries in Baltimore organized a major retrospective of his work. He has recently been included in two major surveys of electronic literature at museums in Mexico City and Barcelona and has had recent exhibitions at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin and the Biennale Nationale de Sculpture Contemporaine, Trois-Rivières, Quebec. He has presented lectures at Cambridge University, Université Paris 8, ELO Conferences, and LISA Salon in New York. He taught at the University of Western Ontario and is currently a Professor of Expanded Media at NSCAD University in Halifax.
